Saudi Arabian Investment Delegation visits the Maldives

A Saudi Arabian business delegation, led by Her Excellency Sara Al Sayed, Deputy Minister for International Relations at the Ministry of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, concluded a successful visit to the Maldives from 2–3 December 2025.

The delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office. The visit follows the President’s audience with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during his visit to the Kingdom earlier this year to perform Hajj, where both sides discussed expanding investment cooperation between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Arabian delegation’s visit to the Maldives was a significant step towards strengthening economic ties and exploring new, promising avenues of partnership between the two countries.

Discussions during the call on the President centred on deepening cooperation across several key sectors, including investment, private-sector development, economic growth, agriculture, fisheries, artificial intelligence, information technology, and tourism. The President expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its longstanding generosity and support to the Maldives, noting that such assistance has greatly contributed to the nation’s socioeconomic development. He also conveyed heartfelt gratitude for the Kingdom’s role in facilitating the completion of Velana International Airport (VIA) and for dispatching the distinguished delegation to the Maldives. The Saudi delegation, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the President and the Government of the Maldives for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to them. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing the close and brotherly relations between the Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from the President’s Office were also present at the meeting.

During the visit, the Saudi delegation held a series of meetings with Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials, including:
-    Meeting with the Ministerial Committee chaired by His Excellency Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs
-    Meeting with His Excellency Dr Abdulla Khaleel, Minister of Foreign Affairs
-    Meeting with His Excellency Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Economic Development and Trade
-    Meeting with His Excellency Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism and Environment
-    Meeting with His Excellency Mohamed Ameen, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation
-    Meeting with His Excellency Dr Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure

The delegation also participated in the Maldives–Saudi Investment Forum, held at Kurumba Maldives on 3 December 2025, where they engaged with Government agencies, State-Owned Enterprises, and private-sector industry leaders across thematic areas to explore concrete investment opportunities.
The visit concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing confidence that the outcomes of the engagements and the momentum generated during the meetings and Investment Forum would pave the way for strengthened cooperation and expanded investment partnerships. The Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing mutually beneficial initiatives in the period ahead.
