Maldives- Saudi Arabia relations

The Maldives and Saudi Arabia enjoy a strong bilateral relationship characterized by long-standing fraternal bonds of friendship and cooperation. The Maldives and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on 17 March 1981.
 
The Maldives established its diplomatic presence in Riyadh on 12 May 2008 with His Excellency Mr. Hussain Shihab becoming the first resident Ambassador . The Maldives established its Consulate in Jeddah on 27 August 2019.
 
Saudi Arabia established its Embassy in Male', Maldives on 2 August 2015, with His Excellency Mr. Badr Ali Alkaheel as the first resident Ambassador from Saudi Arabia.
 
His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Sareer was appointed by His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 30 October 2024. H.E. Mr. Sareer is the fifth resident Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
 
Saudi Arabia has played a significant role in the development of Maldives.  The two countries have also been working closely in the international arena on key issues such as peace and security, climate change, human security, and promotion and protection of human rights throughout the world.
 
People to people contact as well as trade and commercial relations between the two countries have grown steadily over the years.
